This educational session covers the essential steps to build a surgical center, including facility planning, regulatory compliance, and staff recruitment. Attendees will learn the best practices for setting up a center that not only meets regulatory requirements but is also safe and appealing to patients.

  1. Identify and outline the essential steps required for establishing a new surgical facility.
  2. Distinguish between necessary requirements and optional enhancements for the facility.
  3. Develop a comprehensive strategy for recruiting qualified staff and related personnel.

Speaker: Brett Maxfield, MS, CRNA 

Brett Maxfield is the Director of Anesthesia and Surgical Services for Madison Avenue Surgery Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho and the President and CEO of Maxfield Healthcare Solutions, an international surgical consulting firm based in Southeastern Idaho.  He is a graduate of Brigham Young University-Idaho, and the University of Michigan-Flint Anesthesia Program, and has been a CRNA since 2009. He is an owner in a multi-specialty surgical center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, an international surveyor and member of the board of directors for Quad A, and a guest reviewer and speaker for Becker’s Healthcare Review. He also enjoys teaching and currently lectures independently and for Twin Oaks Anesthesia Seminars. Mr. Maxfield is currently the President of the Idaho Ambulatory Surgery Center Association, the chair of the AANA practice committee, and a panel member of the AANA Reimbursement Technical Advisory Panel.

Moderator: Chhaya Patel, MD, SAMBA-F

Dr. Chhaya Patel is an associate professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatric at Emory University School of Medicine. She has served as the Medical Director of Satellite Blvd., Surgery Center. She is also the Vice Chair of the Pediatrics Committee and Education Committee for SAMBA.
