Professional Bio

Dr. Kara Barnett is an Associate Clinical Member at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center and serves as Director of Anesthesia Services at MSK’s Monmouth regional site. She earned her undergraduate and medical degrees from Washington University in St. Louis and completed her anesthesiology residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Barnett serves on the Board of Directors of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA), where she chairs both the Scientific Papers Committee and the Non Operating Room Anesthesia (NORA) Committee. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists (NYSSA), serving as Chair of the Communications Committee and Editor in Chief of Sphere. In addition, she is actively involved in multiple institutional and national committees across MSK, SAMBA, the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), and NYSSA.
Her academic interests include perioperative lactation, NORA in the ambulatory surgery center, patient safety, and active listening. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, photography, and a good game of Candy Crush.
