Professional Bio

Dr. Kara Barnett is an Associate Clinical Member at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center and serves as the Director of Anesthesia Services at MSK's Monmouth regional site. She earned both her undergraduate and medical degrees from Washington University in St. Louis and completed her anesthesiology residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Barnett currently chairs both the Scientific Papers Committee and the Non-Operating Room Anesthesia (NORA) Committee for SAMBA, and also serves on SAMBA’s Meetings and Education Committees. She is Chair of the Communications Committee for the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists (NYSSA) and Editor-in-Chief of the NYSSA Sphere newsletter. Additionally, she contributes to various committees across MSK, the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), and NYSSA.

Her academic interests include perioperative lactation, NORA in the ambulatory surgery center (ASC), patient safety, and active listening. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, photography, and playing a good game of Candy Crush.
