Professional Bio
Dr. BobbieJean Sweitzer is dual trained and boarded in anesthesiology and internal medicine. Dr. Sweitzer is an author and the editor of Preoperative Assessment and Management (currently 4th edition in progress). She has authored over 125 peer-reviewed manuscripts and abstracts and over 30 book chapters. She was on the writing committee for the 2024 AHA/ACC/ACS/ASNC/HRS/ SCA/SCCT/SCMR/SVM Guideline for Perioperative Cardiovascular Management for Noncardiac Surgery. She lectures nationally and internationally on preoperative medicine and ambulatory surgery topics. She is on the editorial board of Anesthesiology, and hosts a monthly podcast for Anesthesiology, the premier journal of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. In 2024 she was awarded the SPAQI Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dr. Sweitzer is past President of the Society of Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement (SPAQI) and the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA). She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), SAMBA, and the American College of Cardiology. She is an elected member of the Association of University Anesthesiologists. She is a founding member of the Governing Board of SPAQI.
