FDA MEETING REGARDING DROPERIDOL - TOP

On November 18, 2003, the Anesthetic and Life Support Drugs Advisory Committee of the US Food and Drug Administration will be convening a public meeting to discuss the assessment and management of risk related to QTc prolongation by Droperidol. The meeting will be held in Gaithersburg, MD, and is open to all members of the public. Both written and oral testimony will be presented. Dr. Tong J. Gan, Chair of the SAMBA Committee on Research and At-Large Member of the SAMBA Board of Directors, and Dr. Bruce Cullen, ASA Vice President of Scientific Affairs, will be giving presentations at the meeting. Other individuals with opinions regarding this very important issue are encouraged to attend. Click here for more information.

SAMBA MID YEAR MEETING A SUCCESS- TOP

The Mid Year Meeting was a great success! Attendance numbers were the highest ever. The mixture of both clinical and administrative topics within the program was very well received. The involvement of private practitioners giving talks on practical aspects of ambulatory anesthesia was particularly useful and received much positive feedback.

If you missed the meeting, make plans now to attend the SAMBA Annual Meeting to be held April 29 to May 2, 2004 in Seattle, WA, or the SAMBA Mid Year Meeting, to be held on October 22, 2004 in Las Vegas, NV. If you have any suggestions for future meetings, please send us a note.

MEET THE COMMITTEE: Committee on Research- TOP

The Committee on Research is responsible for establishing and distributing guidelines for all research grants presented by SAMBA. The committee also receives the applications for all research grants, grades the applications, and determines whether or not the grants should be awarded.

In July 2003, the Committee on Research announced the establishment of the second SAMBA Outcomes Research Award. This award will fund outcomes-oriented research in ambulatory anesthesia, with the sum of $150,000 over a two-year period. Click here to download further information regarding this award. The application submission deadline is January 15, 2004.

If you would like further information regarding the Committee on Research, please contact us.
