EDUCATIONAL GUIDELINES AVAILABLE - TOP

The SAMBA's Educational Guidelines for Subspecialty Anesthesia Residency and Fellowship Training in Ambulatory Anesthesia are a great source of reference material not only for anesthesiologists in training, but also for anyone involved in delivering anesthesia in the ambulatory setting. The guidelines contain a large number of references regarding the different types of ambulatory surgical facilities, as well the preoperative evaluation, preparation and medication, intraoperative management, and postoperative care of the ambulatory surgical patient. There is also a comprehensive manual of guidelines for the management of Malignant Hyperthermia in the ambulatory setting. Visit our Web site to view these guidelines.

NATIONAL SURVEY OF AMBULATORY SURGERY - TOP

A new National Survey of Ambulatory Surgery, conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics, is underway. The last such survey was in 1994-96. SAMBA encourages the selected hospitals and surgery centers to participate as the findings of this large-scale survey will have great importance.

The survey will provide a wealth of data on the characteristics of users of ambulatory surgery in hospitals and freestanding facilities. These data are important for many reasons, including:

  • To complete the picture of surgical care in the US
  • To track changes in the sites where different types of operations are performed
  • To compile national benchmarks for states and regions
  • To make national and local decisions about allocation of resources and training of medical personnel
  • To conduct research on public health and medical care

SAMBA SURVEY – CO2 ABSORBENTS - TOP

Please take the "SAMBA Survey on the Use of CO2 Absorbents".   This is a brief on-line survey trying to assess how well information on CO2 absorbents has reached practicing anesthesiologists, and whether it has changed people's management in this area.  Please give us your input and the results will be made available to the SAMBA membership and e-newsletter subscribers.

Maintaining a vibrant organization requires input from our membership.  The “SAMBA Survey” is a regular feature on this site that helps us better assess the needs of the membership as well as to gather basic survey information on various practice issues.

ASA CBA (Certificate in Business Administration) PROGRAM - TOP

The ASA’s Certificate in Business Administration (CBA) Program will be of interest to many SAMBA members seeking positions as Medical Director of Ambulatory Surgery facilities. It is designed for physicians and provides an overall orientation of the business skills needed to successfully manage the operations and functions of a health care organization or medical practice and to participate actively in its strategic success.

This program is designed to teach the business skills that will help run a department, manage the challenges of a modern practice (private or academic), attain some of the language and perspective of the “other side” of the table and sharpen entrepreneurial skills. This program is designed for participants who have had no formal business education. For more information contact the ASA Executive Office at (847) 825-5586 or email.
