TOP

A mission of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia
is to promote research in ambulatory anesthesia, especially among new
investigators. To this end, each year the Society presents
awards in the following categories to individuals submitting abstracts
to the SAMBA Annual Meeting: Best Abstract Award, Resident
Travel Award and White Mountain Institute Awards. The Best Abstract
Award is provided to the authors whose abstracts are competitive graded
by the Committee on Scientific Papers to be the top five overall abstract
submissions to the meeting. The Travel Awards provide $1,000 travel
grants to the top five resident abstract submissions. The White Mountain
Institute Award complements the SAMBA Resident Travel Award by providing
the top five resident abstract submitters with monetary recognition.
The 2004 recipients are as follows:

EDUCATIONAL GUIDELINES AVAILABLE - TOP

The
SAMBA Committee on Education has revised SAMBA's Educational
Guidelines for Subspecialty Anesthesia Residency and Fellowship Training
in Ambulatory Anesthesia. These are a great source of reference
material not only for anesthesiologists in training, but also for anyone
involved in delivering anesthesia in the ambulatory setting. The guidelines
contain a large number of references regarding the different types of
ambulatory surgical facilities, as well the preoperative evaluation,
preparation and medication, intraoperative management, and postoperative
care of the ambulatory surgical patient. There is also a comprehensive
manual of guidelines for the management of Malignant
Hyperthermia in the ambulatory setting. Visit our Web
site to view these guidelines.
