PROPOSED BYLAWS AMENDMENTS - TOP

At its October 2003 meeting, the Board of Directors approved several amendments to the SAMBA Bylaws as presented by the Committee on Bylaws. The proposed amendments include the following: (1) creation of an Operations Primer that would serve as a manual for officers and committee chairs; (2) establishment of certain committees as standing committees of the Society; (3) assignment of the Chair of the Committee on Development as a standing member of the Committee on Annual Meeting. The amendments are presented here in accordance with the procedures to amend the Society’s Bylaws, stating that proposed amendments must be distributed to every member of the Society at least two weeks prior to the SAMBA Annual Membership Meeting to be held on May 2, 2004, in Seattle, Washington. At the meeting, the proposed amendments will be presented a second time, followed by a vote. A two-third affirmative vote of the active members present and voting is necessary for the proposed amendments to become effective. The proposed amendments may be viewed here.

SAMBA 2004 ANNUAL MEETING - TOP

The 19th Annual Meeting of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia will have the theme "Expanding the Horizon in Ambulatory Anesthesia". The meeting will be held at the Seattle Westin from April 30 - May 2, 2004.

This year’s program features presentations on “state-of-the-art” topics of interest to practitioners involved in the care of outpatients undergoing ambulatory surgery in hospital-based, freestanding and office-based surgery facilities. Sessions focus on clinical as well as management topics relevant to ambulatory anesthesia and surgery. Our preconvention workshop on "Preoperative Evaluation and Perioperative Medicine" features internists and anesthesiologists as speakers, and includes an in-depth segment on morbid obesity and sleep apnea. Workshops in regional anesthesia, airway management, and technology are offered, as well as the ever-popular Clinical Forum. A program segment specifically for residents will focus on career choices and medicolegal issues.

Seattle offers a wide variety of attractions for the whole family. The Seattle Aquarium, Seattle Art Museum, and Experience Music Project are within easy distance of the meeting hotel. Seattle has outstanding music and theatre, wonderful shopping, and fine dining. You will also have the extraordinary opportunity to join friends and colleagues at SAMBA’s social evening at the Space Needle. SAMBA invites you to experience Seattle – The Emerald City!

The complete program can now be viewed on the SAMBA Web site. On-line registration information will be available soon. Also stay tuned to the SAMBA Web site for more specific updates to help you plan your free time in Seattle!
