The Committee on Scientific Papers has issued a call for abstracts for the SAMBA 21st Annual Meeting to be held in Washington, D.C., on May 4 - 7, 2006. Only abstracts submitted online via the SAMBA Web site will be considered for grading. February 15, 2006, is the deadline for abstract submissions.

Online abstract submission is now available.

Travel awards are available!

The Society encourages residents in anesthesiology training programs to become more involved in SAMBA. To this end, the Society will issue a limited number of travel awards to anesthesiology residents whose scientific abstracts are accepted for presentation at the SAMBA 2006 Annual Meeting.

SAMBA PANEL AT IARS

SAMBA members will be presenting a panel on ambulatory anesthesia at the annual IARS meeting in San Francisco. The meeting will be held at the Hyatt Embarcadero, San Francisco on Saturday, March 25, 2006.

Walter G. Maurer, M.D., SAMBA President-Elect, has issued a call for nominations, soliciting names of individuals to serve on the SAMBA Resident Section.  Positions in the Resident Section are available to all SAMBA resident members.  Participation in the SAMBA Resident Section helps our future leaders to development many of the skills that will help them succeed in their practices, including management skills, interpersonal relations skills, professional development, education concerning practice problems and an opportunity to enlarge your circle of friends.

Here is a description of the resident section and its mission.  To be nominated for the SAMBA Resident Section simply e-mail your interest to g.hoormann@asahq.org.  Please ask your program director to forward a supportive message to the same e-mail address.  Or, you may forward a letter of interest along with a letter of support from your program director to:

DRUG INFORMATION RESOURCES - TOP

The Food and Drug Administration offers many valuable information resources for patients and providers. Among the more recent additions is a listing of 100 new drugs that have revised pediatric labelling, including propofol and sevoflurane.

The Center for Drug Evaluation and Research has a focus on medication safety, and has a new project to produce a free and publically accessible database of drug labels.

Dues invoices for 2006 have been mailed to SAMBA Members. Be sure to renew your membership. The deadline for remitting your 2006 membership dues is December 15, 2005. You may conveniently renew your dues online. Should you have a colleague who you think would enjoy the benefits and services of a SAMBA membership, we encourage you to refer them to this Web address and have them join online as a new member.
