SAMBA Congratulates Rebecca Twersky, MD - TOP

SAMBA congratulates Rebecca S. Twersky, M.D., M.P.H., upon the completion of her term as chair of the JCAHO Ambulatory Health Care Professional and Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC). Dr. Twersky was first appointed to the Ambulatory PTAC in 1988 as ASA's representative. Recognizing her valuable input, she was elected by its members to the position of Vice-Chair in 2001, where she represented the PTAC at the Standards and Survey Procedure Committee, the body that is responsible for making Standards and Elements of Performance recommendations. She was a constant advocate for ASA especially regarding Sedation/Anesthesia and Medication Management Standards. From 2003-5 she served as the Chair of the AHC PTAC, and participated in the Board of Commissioners meetings. Her leadership in guiding the PTAC in complex review and discussions of ambulatory accreditation programs was recently recognized by JCAHO. She has been elected to serve on the newly formed Physician Engagement Advisory Group.

MID YEAR MEETING A SUCCESS - TOP

Even though SAMBA had to relocate the 2005 Mid Year Meeting from New Orleans to Atlanta in wake of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the results of the meeting can be termed nothing less than a great success. Attendance numbers were only slightly lower than previous meetings. The mixture of both clinical and administrative topics within the program was very well received. The involvement of private practitioners giving talks on practical aspects of ambulatory anesthesia was particularly useful and received much positive feedback.

The next SAMBA Mid Year Meeting will be held on October 13, 2006, in Chicago, Illinois. If you have any suggestions for this or future meetings, please send an email to us.

SAMBA COMMITTEES 2006-2007 - TOP

The backbone of a not-for-profit organization such as SAMBA is its committee structure. Your Society is blessed with a vibrant committee structure with active participation on these committees by members, the grassroots of our organization. All program and services developed by the Society come through the committees and are brought to your Board of Directors only for approval and feedback. As you can see, membership involvement in SAMBA committees is important to the overall success of the organization.

Dr. Walter G. Maurer, SAMBA president-elect, would like to ask you to become involved in SAMBA and assist in our continued growth. Committee involvement provides you the opportunity to have a voice in the programs and services your Society has to offer. Committee service is also an excellent way to grow your management and interpersonal relations skills. Dr. Maurer invites you to be involved in the SAMBA Committees and would like to hear from you. Please visit the SAMBA Web site at www.sambahq.org and review the list of the more than 30 committees and select the committee(s) which you would be most interested on serving. You may e-mail Dr. Maurer your desire to participate at maurerw@ccf.org.
