The
Members
Only section of the SAMBA Web site is now available. In
this section, SAMBA members will find an electronic membership directory
for their reference. The Committee on Communications plans
to add other items to the section in the upcoming months.
Please feel free to send your suggestions on what you would like
to see in the Members Only section to samba@asahq.org.
SAMBA Members must enter a password and user name to gain entrance to the Members Only section. All members in our email database have been sent this information. If you did not receive it, please email SAMBA at samba@asahq.org.
Congratulations
to Dr. Karen C. Nielsen, the recipient of SAMBA's second
Outcomes Research Award for $150,000. Dr. Nielsen was presented
with this prestigious award at the 2004 SAMBA Annual Meeting. Her
research project is titled "The Role of Dexamethasone
and Anesthesia Depth in the Incidence of Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction:
A Factorial Randomized Controlled trial". Dr. Nielsen
will be aided by co-investigators Drs. Ricardo Pietrobon, Susan Steele,
Christian Apfel and Daniel Sessler. A summary of the project proposal
can be viewed here.
While attending the 2004 ASA Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, don’t forget to attend the SAMBA Breakfast Panel, titled Traffic Patterns: Roadblocks and Detours. It will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at 7:30 am.
The SAMBA Committee on Education has another excellent session planned for this year! It will be moderated by Thomas W. Cutter, M.D., M.A.Ed, and will include the following presentations:
- The Problem Parent by Linda J. Mason, M.D.
- Do Not Pass Go: Problems in the PACU by Mary Ann Vann, M.D.
- Haste Not, Waste Not: Productivity and Safety by David B. Glick, M.D., M.B.A.
SAMBA MIDYEAR MEETING IN OCTOBER 2004: REGISTRATION IS NOW AVAILABLE - TOP
On-line registration is now available for the SAMBA 2004 Mid Year Meeting. This conference is jointly sponsored by the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and will be held in the exciting city of Las Vegas on October 22, 2004 (one day before the ASA Annual Meeting).
This year's theme is "What's New in Ambulatory Anesthesia?" In addition to five very informative panel sessions, a special luncheon lecture has been added this year, titled "Getting Tricked by Medical Software and Devices? Let's See Through the Unintended Magic!"
